Goings-on

Hey Giraffe Team-

We have lots to celebrate this week! Including our writers! We celebrated the end of our Revision unit! We have learned so much.

Also- we have a fun Friday coming up on 12.6. It is wacky head day and also bringing a toy for "Toys for Tots"...I would love for our Giraffe Team to help others during the holiday season!

Crazy Week!

Wow Giraffe Team- This week has been a blast so far!


We were able to visit the Tri-Cities Museum & learn about the history of our state and our area specifically!

We also had a 50th day of school celebration- 1950's style! We did 1950's themed math, writing, and reading! It was an exciting day!

Class Dojo

Hi Parents-

I did send an email regarding our class dojo usage. This is a behavior management tool I am using for our class now. I am going to give it a try for our Giraffe Team and see if it works for us! Each student has an "avatar" they can change their avatar at home by logging in.

Your child can log into their account with the username & password I sent home. Please email me if you did not receive one. Also, your child can track their points for certain days.

You can also create a parent login to monitor your child's progress at school! There is a link to this website under "parent links".

Math Test...Moved

We are moving our math test to Friday 11.8.13 :)

that gives us a bit more time to review!

Things to bring this week...

Candy Buyback: Please bring leftover/extra candy for our candy buyback collection!

Thanksgiving food drive: we need non-perishables for our food drive...it is a class competition! If you see anything on sale or in your cupboards that you won't use, please send it in for families in need this holiday season.

Field Trip & the 1950's

Also- we will be having a 50th day of school party with a 1950's theme. All day. All fun. [but academic of course] Please look for correspondence regarding this party in the folders tomorrow! I may need a few hands with Root beer float making & crafting...I will let you know more about that when I get the schedule together. Start looking for 50's gear for your child to wear to school that day!

Math Test

Our Unit 2 math test is slated for Wednesday 11.6.13. It will cover base 10, expanded form, adding 2 or more 2 digit numbers, money [how to write in dollar or cent form], coin amounts, and money story problems. It's been a tricky unit! Can't wait to see our giraffes rock this test!

Delayed Start tomorrow

School will start at 10:40 as teachers will have professional development. Open door is available to those who need it!

Conference Week

I am thrilled that conference week is here. Very excited to celebrate your children and show you the great progress they are making already!

Math Change

Hi Giraffes-
In an effort to stay on the same page with other second graders, we are going to slow down a bit on math! We will be reviewing today and there will be no homework for math tonight. Our test will be next week :)

Congratulations to Chase for being writer of the week! He used a strong lead by writing the sounds of his alarm clock that he heard by waking up in the morning. He also used dialogue to add detail to his writing!

Reading Identity

We talked about our reading identities this week. This was a great time for our Giraffes to learn things about themselves as readers and find other readers with similar identities.We talked about where we like to read as well, this is part of our identity. I got a picture of each friend in their "chosen" spot. Our friends wrote about their identities as well. So many fun things to learn about them as growing readers!

PTA meeting review

I have never been so excited for a Monday before- I just love spending the day with my Second Grade friends!

Congratulations to Emery for accomplishing Writer of the Week status! Emery combined emotion and details into a small moment about the playground. He is a rockstar writer!

Writer of the week & reminders

I would like to congratulate Jonah Butcher on being named "Writer of the Week". He displayed such great details on a story about he and his dad on a bike ride. He even used Math Language in his writing! Wow!!

Also- lunch club will occur on Wednesday this week due to an afternoon meeting that I have on Thursday. Harris, Rachel, Aiden W., and Kaitlyn chose to join me this week.

Open House is TONIGHT from 6:15 to 6:45 in room 20! I am so so excited to share everything with you. Please be in my room promptly before 6:10- I would like to start right on time as I have a lot of information to cover.

First Day of School

Wow! What a fabulous first day on our Gade's Giraffes team! We had a great time getting to know each other. We had an assembly with Mrs. Drake, a meeting about positive behavior, learned about our classroom and had the new targeted learning special! I am so excited to continue the fun tomorrow...
